With the opening of The Cloister in 1928, Bill Jones and automobile magnate Howard Coffin created “a friendly little hotel” on the southern coast of Georgia. In the many years that have passed since Sea Island’s first guest, much in our world has changed. But some things – such as the values of treasuring family, friends, and nature – have remained timeless.

As the resort has evolved through the years, the simple traditions that define Sea Island have been preserved. The same children who once played on the shore years ago now bring their children and grandchildren to play on the same beach. Couples celebrate their golden anniversaries where they first honeymooned. Families reminisce of past vacations, while creating new memories and family traditions.

For more than 85 years, the foundation of genuine warmth and hospitality has remained constant. Between the marshland and the sea exists an island where the world is almost perfect. That place is Sea Island.

Located on the Georgia coast, this Sea Island resort features 8 km private beach and 3 championship golf courses. A full-service spa is on site at this Mediterranean-inspired property as well.

All accommodations offer wood furnishings, exposed beam ceilings, and handmade Turkish rugs. Extras include a flat-screen cable television. Some suites at The Cloister also feature oceanfront, riverfront, and marsh views.

Guests can relax from an active day in the sauna, hot tub, or with a massage. Guests can also enjoy full access to all amenities and dining at The Lodge at Sea Island Golf Club 8 km away on St. Simon’s Island.

The Cloister Georgian Room offers a fine dining spin on American Southern cuisine for dinner Tuesday through Saturday. Rustic Italian cuisine is offered at Tavola and casual dining can be found at River Bar and Southern Tide.

Saint Simons Island Lighthouse Museum is 6 miles from the property. Guests will be 10 miles from Brunswick city centre and 18 miles from picturesque Jekyll Island State Park.
